  3. A replacement of 'WIN.COM' for displaying 256-color bmp file.

  6. How install:
  7.    Just copy all the files into your windows directory where file
  8.    'WIN.COM' residents, and type 'w' instead of 'win' to start
  9.    the windows.

  12. 'W.EXE' takes the same command line parameters as 'WIN.COM'
  13.  
  14.  
  15. Before entering windows, the loader will try showing a 256-color bmp file.
  16. The file name is 'LOGO.BMP' in the windows directory or can be specified by
  17. an environment variable 'LOGOFILE'. Note, a SuperVGA is required to display
  18. the image which size is larger than 320x200 pixels. The screen mode will be
  19. set to the proper resolution according to the image size.

  22. Knowing bugs:
  23. 1.can not start windows in standard mode (will be soon corrected)
  24. 2.does not check the envirenment for windows (ie. HIMEM not present)

  27. Common problems:
  28. 1.nothing happened before entering windows
  29.   perhaps  a) can not find the file 'LOGO.BMP' in your windows directory
  30.        b) the env name 'LOGOFILE=' specifies an invalid file path
  31.        c) the bmp file is not 256 colors or corrupted
  32.        d) the image size is too large for your SuperVGA
  33. 2.can not start windows
  34.   please try 'WIN.COM' first to start windows in enhanced mode, if failed
  35.   reinstall windows.
